In the process of breeding and production, sows are special in the herd species because of their living habits and the need for nutrients. In the colder winter, in order to ensure that the sow can raise the litter rate in the winter, it is necessary to take necessary warming measures for the sow house. So in the vast rural pig farms, what are the ways to save costs and keep warm in winter?
Set up a ceiling: When building a sow house, you must build a ceiling. The ceiling can be made of wood, reed and other materials.
If wood is used as a ceiling, the sides of the board are made into a cut, and the ceiling is covered with asphalt to prevent corrosion.
If you use reeds as a ceiling, remove the leaves, tie them into 5-10 cm thick reed straws, and then apply the mud on them, plus 20-30 cm of sawdust, perlite and other insulation layers.
The heat in the house can not be dissipated from the ceiling, thus playing a role in keeping warm.
Adopting high-density pig raising method: High-density pig raising method refers to increasing the number of pigs per unit area to accommodate pigs under reasonable conditions.
At present, the farmer raises pigs mostly for one column and one pig. The pig pen is large and the number of pigs is small, which is another reason for the low temperature of the pig house.
A pig is a “heat source”, that is, the higher the density, the higher the temperature of the pig house.
The sows that give birth are 4 to 4.5 square meters per head, and one pig is in one pigsty; the sows that are not pregnant, each occupy 1.6 square meters. 4 square meters of the space can raise 2-3 pigs; after 6-8 months of age, the piglets account for 0.8 square meters per head, 4 square meters for 7-8 heads.
The above-mentioned pig house includes places for eating, drinking, and rest. In the resting place, that is, the lying area should be covered by a full circle, that is, the pig can be filled in the lying area without leaving a gap, and the sleeping area should be kept clean and dry.
Laying grass in the pig house: In order to clean the pig house, the pig house is usually equipped with a hog slat flooring , but in the winter, it is better not to leak the slab in the area where the pig rests, which is not conducive to keeping warm.
While increasing the density, you should use grass in the pigsty. It is an effective method for moisture-proof insulation in winter.
The used grass can be fermented with pig manure as an organic fertilizer, which is economical and hygienic, and is both warm and moisture-proof.
Use the method of laying the pigsty:
- put 20-30 cm of the grass in the hog’s lying area, the grass is best made of brick and cement.
- And put the brick under the ground 5 cm, the remaining 19 cm on the ground . The bricks are made of cement to form a 20-22 cm high grass.
- Then the grass is placed in the lying area to prevent the grass from drifting around and the pigs to pee in the lying area.
Add piglet incubator: The piglet that was just born is thinner and less hairy. Therefore, piglets generally live in an environment above 30 °C, and generally the pig house does not reach the required temperature.
In order to meet this requirement, we have to set up an incubator for the piglets.
The piglet cooler boxes set up by most pig farmers are made of wood. This cooler box is heavy and difficult to move.
Although the incubator made of plywood is light, it is easily bitten by the sow. Therefore, it is the best choice to make the incubator with a light and durable thin iron cooler box.
In summary, the construction of a canopy, the use of high-density pigs, grass laying, and the addition of piglet incubators are common warming measures in sow houses. In the winter, pig farmers should do a good job of keeping the sow house warm, so that the sows can be better produced and the survival rate of the piglets can be improved, thus improving the breeding efficiency of the whole farm.
